LIGHTS - SAVIOUR
[[Today's restaurant]]
SOLO PER DUE
"Just for Two" - is the smallest restaurant in the world: it has only one table and it takes just two people at a time. So there are no queues, no turns, and no waiting; all [their] attention is dedicated to the two people who have booked.
The building which houses SOLO PER DUE dates from the nineteenth century and is situated in a very evocative historical location; in the grounds there are the remains of a Roman villa. Carlo Bartolomeo Piazza (1703) identified them as the country villa belonging to the Latin poet HORACE, given to him by MECENATE. As well as admiring the mosaic floors and the portico of the villa, you can also visit the nearby Bandusia Fountain, close to the ruins, to which Horace dedicated one of his most celebrated poems.
When you are ready for your meal, the lights go down, the atmosphere takes on a magical quality, and you can summon the waiter whenever you like with a silver bell."

THE FOOD POD
"This futuristic-looking FoodPod manages to cross boil-in-a-bag cuisine with a strainer, steamer, and a bouquet garni. According to the manufacturer, FusionFoods, the device will save "time and water when preparing a meal, keeps foods together for easy removal and even cooking and acts as a strainer, reserving the cooking liquid." With a 1.75 quart capacity, FusionFoods says it can hold up to a dozen large eggs or several heads of broccoli. The FoodPod is made of dishwasher-safe silicone and nylon and has a built-in clip for attaching to the side of the pot and for use as a handle to yank it out of the water at the end of cooking."

RECALL OF TAINTED FOOD ADDITIVE GROWS

"The list of processed foods being recalled because of salmonella fears continues to grow as authorities in Canada and the U.S. track down tainted products. The massive investigation comes after the discovery that a widely used food additive, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, known as HVP, may have been contaminated by salmonella at a Las Vegas factory that makes it. HVP is a flavour enhancer used in thousands of food products, such as soups, sauces, chilies, stews, hot dogs, gravies, seasoned snack foods, dips and dressings. It is often blended with other spices to make seasonings that are used in or on foods. Basic Food Flavors Inc. of Las Vegas initiated the recall Saturday after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration conducted an investigation and found traces of Salmonella tennessee. In the U.S., 101 products have been identified as containing HVP made by Basic Food Flavors."

After I found the above article article – I soon after found this next article….
COMPANY KNEW PLANT WAS CONTAMINATED WITH SALMONELLA

"The company at the heart of a growing recall of processed foods knew that its plant was contaminated with salmonella but continued to make a flavoring and sell it to foodmakers around the country, according to inspectors at the Food and Drug Administration. Managers at Basic Food Flavors of Las Vegas learned on Jan. 21 that samples taken a week earlier from their Nevada facility tested positive for salmonella, a potentially deadly bacterium, but they kept shipping their product to foodmakers, according to FDA inspection records. The company makes hydrolyzed vegetable protein, or HVP, a flavor enhancer used in a wide variety of processed foods, from potato chips to sweet and sour tofu. The additive, which comes as a powder or a paste, is mixed into foods to give them a meaty or savory flavor -- similar to the use of monosodium glutamate."
