MAYER HAWTHORNE – I WISH IT WOULD RAIN
B.E.D. RESTAURANT & CLUB
"BED has created a distinctive and relaxing retreat in the middle of South Beach's hottest nightlife district. The eclectic restaurant and lounge boasts large mattresses and mountains of pillows, providing guests with not only a perfect setting for a decadent meal, but also the luxury of seclusion at the pull of a drape. Recently, BED has created a new component to this innovative space - a VIP booth area located on the south side of the restaurant to give their guests who don’t prefer to lie down during their meal an additional option for seating. BED Miami, translating to Beverage, Entertainment and Dining, exemplifies the summit of each of these components through their inspired cocktails, lavish menu and slow-motion video projections that dance along the walls and dance floor to the sounds of the night's designated world class DJ. The restaurant's interactive tapas-style cuisine is created by executive chef Freddy Vega."

FOR HEALTHIER KIDS, INCREASE THE FEDERAL SCHOOL LUNCH BUDGET
"The administration has proposed an additional $1 billion per year for child nutrition in its fiscal 2011 budget. At first blush, given the state of the economy and the president's call for a three-year freeze on discretionary spending, this might seem like a win. The School Nutrition Association and the Center for Science in the Public Interest have applauded the proposal and are asking parents and school administrators to get behind this investment. But the truth is that $1 billion is a far cry from what's needed to get good food into schools. In fact, $1 billion for child nutrition per year translates to mere pennies for every school lunch. That's not even what it costs me to put a fresh apple on each lunch tray."
