Spring break!

First day of spring break!
Woot Woot!
I'm sitting on my porch - listening to St. Vincent - eating French Toast
And of course - enjoying the beautiful weather.

First things first.
I need to purchase some spf 70 sunscreen and an umbrella lol.
As you can tell - my skin is pretty fair.
And I refuse to get burned again this year.
Every year I get burned really bad at least once.
NOT THIS YEAR
NO SIRIE BOBBY!

A little sun wouldn't hurt every now and then.
I can't walk around looking pasty all summer long lol.
As I stated Yesterday ...I am now on a ten day journey of nothingness.
I have absolutely nothing to do until April 1st.
How does it feel you ask? AMAZING that's how.

Hopefully a visit to Chicago will be in my near future.
Fingers crossed.

If you've been reading my blog for the past few weeks
you know that i've been working very diligently on
a 'Candyland' themed gingerbread house for my Pastry class final.
Well - It's finished! We turned them in yesterday.
So as promised - I've provided a couple of pictures of mine
and also pictures of the other gingerbread houses in my class.

I am really proud of myself and my fellow classmates.
The structures turned out awesome.
No two gingerbread houses are the same - hell, barely any of them are actually houses!
You will come to find that we are a very creative bunch
and that we're pretty talented as well.
...ENJOY...

This is my rendition of 'Candy Land' what do you think??
I think it's pretty close!

My good friend Joan constructed this mega barn! It's awesome
I love the barn animals made of cookies & peeps!

This is a big & beautiful castle with a courtyard in the center of it
and a moat with sweedish fish along the front!

This is an awesome diner that comes equipped with a parking lot and a pond!
The inside of it is hard to see - but there are little candy tables and chairs.
Sitting on each chair is a gummy bear. On top of some of the tables there are sweedish fish-
So it looks like the gummy bears are eating the fish!! How cute!

This is a winnebago! It has a row boat made out of graham crackers on top-
and a cute little landscape!
This is a house/cabin of sorts - the roof is made of cereal!

Funny story behind Jim's toothfairy gingerbread structure.
This isn't the original structure, it's the third one!
Jim's first structure got ruined somehow
and his dog ate half of the second house he built (seriously!! He ate it!)
So he had to make a third one!
He is such a trooper. I would've called it quits after the first!

This little guy was made in the span of 1 hr to 1/2 hrs.
I couldnt've done that much in that small span of time!
It's so cute. Sort of looks like the Flinstones house hu?

I was told that this is an exact replica of the house he (the maker) grew up in.

The maker of this house was going for sort of a 'Tim Burton' type house.
And I think he hit the nail right on the head.
It's gorgeous. Such pretty/dark colors with cool angles and such.
He also has a little naked guy tied up (lol) with an apple in his mouth
and a cannibal sitting behind him with a fork and knife.
A few people thought he had a ball gag in his mouth. Hahaha. Nonono - it's an apple.
Trying to keep this G rated folks.

Just like Jims 'Toothfairy' house- this TP was made 3 times before it reached it's final state.
I'm glad Anthony never gave up - because this is just awesome.
He has a little gummy bear roasting over a fire.
And a little gummy bear fishing for sweedish fish.

CAN’T STAND HEAT, CHEFS GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN

– AND SMOKE-

"There's no smoking inside Illinois restaurants. But what about outside, or around back? You're likely to find a number of the waitstaff and kitchen crew puffing away.Forty percent of the people employed in the food and beverage industry smoke -- nearly twice the national average, according to 2000 U.S. census numbers. And according to one estimate, hospitality workers have three times the average risk of lung cancer, which is 50 percent higher than any other industry.

Workers in hectic restaurant kitchens often attribute the prevalence of smoking to the fast-paced, stressful environment and a culture that long has tolerated cigarette breaks -- but not taking a break for fresh air or mental health. Also, smoking traditionally has accompanied a certain image of the chef lifestyle."
