BUCKTOWN SOUP CAFE
“Dino Agudo the man behind the neighborhood soup operation, actually seems quite sane. He’s a former attorney who loved the law but yearned for "a more zen life." He also had the wherewithal to come up with an alternate plan—that plan being, of course, soup. Like the rest of Agudo’s soups—about 90 in all, nine of which are featured on any given day—the bisque is available in two sizes (12-ounce and 16-ounce) and comes with sesame and sunflower seed-encrusted wholegrain bread from Red Hen Bread. Save for the bread, pre-packaged cookies from local purveyor Butter Bella and some bottled drinks, soup is the only offering at the little counter-service cafe. As a budget option, soup is hard to beat. It’s filling. It’s relatively healthful. And as Bucktown Soup Cafe’s lengthy list of possible offerings proves, there’s almost endless variety—including, lest we forget, cold soups like gazpacho and vichyssoise. Agudo’s still tweaking the recipes on the chilled varieties, but he assures us they’ll be along just as soon as he gets them right. Just in time for the first snowfall, no doubt.”

(1) DR. OZ WAITS TABLES AT COOPER’S TAVERN, JUDGES PATRONS’ ORDERS
“On tomorrow's episode of The Dr. Oz Show, the good doctor plunks on a pair of heavy glasses, Clark Kent style, and shows up for an anonymous day of work as a waiter at Hell's Kitchen stalwart Cooper's Tavern. He's there in order to learn, as the episode's title implies, "Secrets That Restaurants Don't Want You to Know" — we presume many of them involve the vast quantities of butter and salt that makes restaurant food so darn good. In the exclusive clip below, watch as Oz passes judgment on his patrons' orders — "Why would you order that?" he asks a guy who asks for the ten-ounce Skyscraper Burger. The man is undeterred: "I believe in meat."
(2) SAN FRANCISCO’S MEAT-FREE MONDAYS GETTING A SHRUG
“Besides approving rules against using plastic grocery bags, mixing recycling with compost, and smoking in sidewalk cafes, San Francisco supervisors have passed a resolution asking residents to observe meatless Mondays.
San Francisco supervisors passed the resolution on Tuesday for no-meat Mondays in their latest legislative endorsement of healthy, eco-conscious living.
It cannot stop the city's residents from eating meat. Instead, it is meant to call attention to the relationship between diet and climate change.
To some, the resolution is a welcome reminder of the small part that residents play in solving a larger problem. But others were left asking for Board of Supervisor-Free Fridays. Most shrugged it off as another one of those "only in San Francisco" initiatives that many forget about soon after passage.”

(3) TALKING TRAVEL: ANDREW ZIMMERN DISCUSSES BIZARRE FOODS
"Andrew Zimmern is best known as the host of Travel Channel's Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. But before he was traveling the globe eating glands, connective tissue and anuses, he was an acclaimed chef, writer and expert in Chinese cuisine. The new season of his Travel Channel program premieres later this month and, in anticipation of that, he chatted with us about a wide range of topics.
When we started our conversation, Andrew was in an editing room helping his producers identify meats from an episode filmed in Argentina. He pointed out thymus glands and sweet breads as easily as you or I would point out our friends in a photograph. During the rest of our discussion, we touched on subjects ranging from his iron constitution to the American culinary psychology to just how educational his television program actually is.
So what are Andrew Zimmern's favorite foods? What is the one thing that he absolutely cannot stand eating? And what other Travel Channel host does he have a not-so-secret crush on? Andrew Zimmern shared it all with us."

(4) ANTHONY BOURDAIN INTERVIEW
“To anchor our annual Eat Out Awards Issue, we spoke with one of the most prominent chroniclers of food culture. Anthony Bourdain is such a staple of travel TV that some fans may not realize he’s had two other successful careers—first as a chef, then as a writer. The No Reservations host doesn’t see the inside of a professional kitchen very much anymore, but he’s still writing; his new book of essays, Medium Raw, which is rumored to contain a loving chapter on David Chang and a critical one on Alice Waters, comes out in June. Bourdain, 53, will offer a preview of the book when he tells stories at the Chicago Theatre on April 24.”

3-D BIKINIS ARE EXTRA HOT
“When you have 3D photography around, you know the pictures are going to be stunning. But when you have 3D photography of hot models in tiny bikinis, you know it's really going to sell. Photographer Jacques Dequeker has done just this with his latest work for Vogue Mexico April 2010 and it's sizzling. The gorgeous Isabeli Fontana as his centerpiece oozes sex appeal and the red and blue hues add a certain oomph. She is clad in Louis Vuitton jewelry and ensembles, which makes her look perfect. You have to see the pictures to believe it.”
