I have a lot to talk about before I get to my daily routine (featured music, restaurant, gadget, etc.) which is why you've all come here in the first place - so we better started so we can get to the good stuff.....FOOD!
You might be asking yourself - "Jenna, where were you yesterday? I didn't hear from you! How exactly did you spend your Saturday night?"
And I might answer - "I started my night out sitting on my couch watching my mom & my sister redecorate our living/dining room" ..... even though I didn't help -I feel like my presence alone was a major contribution to the whole operation ;)
Naturally - I took pictures of them and their misfortunes from my comfy spot on our couch.
(Im diggin our new 60s style couch cover & pillows)
Not only did I laugh at the misfortunes of my loved ones - I also watched a few movies including....
"Away We Go"...
(I highly recommend watching this movie if you haven't already)
"500 days of summer"...
for the 10th time this week......literally.
Men In Black II
While I watched these movies I ate a delicious bowl of ice cream consisting of....
Edy's Fat Free vanilla yogurt and.....
1/2 banana, strawberries, raisins, a few chocolate chips, 2 pretzels, and a teaspoon of honey!!
YUMMMMM Healthy alternative to a delicious delight! My fav :)
That was my Saturday night in a nutshell...nothing crazy exciting happened. But it was quite an enjoyable evening none the less....being a couch potato is quite relaxing actually ;)
Moving on....
This morning I.......
made a delicious breakfast consisting of...
Blueberry activia yogurt w/ blueberries & almonds, a veggie sausage pattie, 1 piece of french toast, skim milk & coffee.
Just like every Wednesday and Sunday, I completed the 'hidden treasures' puzzle in the newspaper...
Then (like any respectable adult would do) I read the comics :)
Agnes is my absolute fav....
That was my morning in a nutshell....pretty typical for a Sunday! The rest of the day I will be working, making pizza from scratch for dinner (yum), studying, practicing my knife cuts, finish my 'eat pray love' book, maybe take a nap...who knows really.....
Time for randomness....
I saw the movie "flash dance" for the very first time the other day.
And of course I liked the movie a lot - it had some pretty groovy dance numbers scattered about the film.
I was disappointed to find out that the lead actress, Jessica Beal (who is also today's featured curly head), had a stunt double dance for her throughout the ENTIRE film!!!! Here I was - thinking that she was this actress/dancer - and she isn't even! She didn't do one single dance number!
But that's neither here nor there...she (and her stut double) have really nice bodies - i'll give them that.
These are the two most memorable/famous scenes of the movie.
(I do this dance routine every morning in my bedroom right after I wake up....no, not really lol)
This is my dad...
He loves tapioca pudding- so I, the wonderful daughter that I am, made him some from scratch yesterday. And it was/is absolutely delicious. Making tapioca from scratch is so much better tasting than the kind you buy in the small pudding cups.
Guess what else? I've provided the recipe for this delicious concoction at the end of this very blog post! You're welcome :)
I am very interested in fashion, art, photography, the 50s-70s etc....
and I am a frequent visitor to blogs that encompass all of the aforementioned things. Blogs such as:
When I went through my daily "blog check" today I came across a lot of pictures that i find wonderful in one way or another:
Last but not least...I will not be blogging for a few days....
...and by a few days I mean that I probably won't blog again until Wednesday. Why? Because I have a written & practical exam in my professional cooking class on Tuesday. I need to spend every moment possible from now until Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. studying. I've been terrible at this so far. Every day I say that I'm going to study and that I'm going to practice my knife cuts and that I'm not going to procrastinate like I always do.....and yet - I've procrastinated big time these past few weeks.
I'm slightly ashamed of myself......ok I'm not ashamed but I do feel sort of guilty. I think if I put a hold on blogging, watching tv, reading, and looking up random culinary information on the internet - that i'll have a lot more time to focus on my studies.
::PHEW:: Talk about being chatty! Just call me Chatty McChatterson...I guess I just had a lot to say...but what's new?
Wish me luck on my exam! And I hope that you have a good Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday!
“In the US, the “Food Pyramid” guidelines, which outline nutritional recommendations to the public, are reviewed on a five year basis. However, this model, adopted by the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, is believed by some scientists to be contributing to the widespread obesity of the nation.
Dr Richard Feinman, founder of Nutrition& Metabolism, appeared on Fox News recently to offer his comments on the shortcomings of the pyramid and the difficulty in trying to overcome them. He describes an outdated and “one size fits all” model that doesn’t cater for individual requirements and fails to incorporate scientific findings.
Using the metabolism of saturated fat as an example, he explains that the role of diet is traditionally misrepresented and highlights the importance of mechanisms such as these being properly understood by the public.
When asked his opinion on why information seems to be withheld, Dr Feinman surmises that “it’s very difficult to get such a big structure to move”, even for members of the committee who have genuine concerns, because of the substantial backing the pyramid receives from respected health bodies such as the NIH, American Diabetes Association and private health organizations. ”
Unfortunately - for the exam I have to take in my professional cooking class - I have to torne' a potato....which I have yet to do successfully. Every attempt i've ever made....I failed horribly lol. I decided to figure out exactly what I was doing wrong - and how to torne' a potato the correct way. I did my research on youtube and found many helpful videos, but I found this one to be the best....

TAPIOCA PUDDING
::Ingredients::
1/2 Cup of small pearl Tapioca
(I used Reese)
2 1/2 cups milk (I use skim)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs separated
1 teaspoon vanilla
::Directions::
1.) In a medium sized bowl, soak tapioca pearls in 2 cups of room temperature water overnight.
2.) The following day drain the water.
3.) In a double boiler, heat the milk until it is no longer cold.
4.) Add salt and tapioca.
5.) Continue heating until small bubbles appear around the sides of the pan.
6.) Cover, and turn heat to a very low temperature.
7.) Cook for one hour (make sure the mixture doesn't simmer or boil within the hour)
8.) Separate the egg whites and the egg yolks (keep both)
9.) Beat the egg yolks and sugar together in a small bowl until they are light yellow in color.
10.) Add a small amount (about a 1/4 cup) of the hot mixture to the small bowl of egg yolk mixture. Blend thoroughly.
11.) Then add the newly blended egg yolk mixture to the double boiler, stirring constantly.
12.) Place the double boiler over medium heat and cook until the tapioca mixture is very thick (about 15 minutes).
13.) In a small bowl beat the egg whites until stiff.
14.) Slowly fold the stiffened egg whites into the hot tapioca mixture.
