And my day has only just begun!

Good day everyone!

It is bright - and sunny - and beautiful here in Ohio.

I hope the same is said for wherever you are in the world.

Last night before I went to sleep I made a list of things I wanted to do today. Due to the fact that I don't have to work today I have a lot more time to focus on accomplishing the things I've

been meaning to get done.

So I woke up this morning at 7:30 and got started straight away. Wanna know what? It's only 12:30 p.m. and i've already accomplished so much today!

I still have a pretty lengthy list of what I would like to do - but even if I don't get to everything - i won't fret, because I'm relieved/proud of myself for the things I have done up until this point.

I’ve been reading the book eat pray love…..

….for a few weeks now. It’s not a long book (only 334 pages), and it is a very good read - but I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t been able to read it as much or as quickly as I’d like.

I once told you I would update you every time I read something that I thought was noteworthy in one way or another. I have quite a handful of quotes I’ve come across in the “india” section of the book that I’d like to share –

“It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else’s life with perfection”

“Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions”

“Someday you’re gonna look back on this moment of your life as such a sweet time of grieving.”

“Time-when pursued like a bandit – will behave like one”

“Grief and nuisance are inevitable in this life, but if you can plant yourself in stillness long enough, you will, in time, experience the truth that everything (both uncomfortable and lovely) does eventually pass”

“You gotta stop wearing your wishbone where your backbone oughtta be”

“A true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that’s holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake.”

Sigh…nothing like a good book to get them wheels in your head a turnin’.

Not only did this book get my mind a goin’ ….

….. it has also influenced me to start meditating.

Why do I want to meditate? I need to learn to slow my mind down. And just sit. I don’t think I’ve ever just sat without physically moving – and without my mind moving.

I have the busiest mind (and mouth) of almost anyone I know – no matter how hard I try to slow it down…my efforts rarely get me anywhere. So for someone of such a quick pace mind – I think it will be very difficult for me to meditate. But I think I can do it. If the author of this book (eat, pray love) can do it – during all of her woes and strife in life - then I can do it too…because I’m fairly woe and strife free! So I already have a leg up on her!

I’m going to do some research…and figure out how the hell I’m supposed to start this meditation business. I’ll let you know how it goes.

For part of my exam in my professional cooking class - I have to roast a pepper.

I’ve seen this done before…but I’ve never done it myself. Crazy right? I’m ashamed lol. So – I youtubed it to figure out exactly how a pepper is roasted. I figured you guys would probably like to see how too! So I posted a few videos today on the roasting process!

I can proudly say that today – I Jenna Black – roasted a pepper for the very first time!

Also for the first time today….

I made red velvet cupcakes!

Now I’m not going to claim that these are the best red velvet cupcakes ever in the history of the entire world (which a lot of blogs do claim) because that title definitely goes to the red velvet cupcakes at ‘Sprinkles’ bakery in Los Angeles.

I don’t think any red velvet cupcake will ever measure up to the red velvet I had at sprinkles. BUT – the ones I made today are very tasty nonetheless.

::I will post the recipe along with the process of making these cupcakes within the next few days::

Lastly….

If you haven’t seen the movie ‘500 days of summer’ before – I suggest you do. I’ve seen it 4 or 5…or 6 times within the past week. But who is counting anyway?

I love this scene from the movie because 1. I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt 2. I love hall & oates and 3. I love random, spontaneous, joyous dancing.

My life should be like this scene.

Have a wonderful day - wherever you are :)

Let us begin...

ST VINCENT – MARRY ME

If you didn’t already know (which I’m sure you do) St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) – is one of my all time favorite curly heads. She is pale, curly, beautiful, elegant, has a beautiful voice and writes oh so beautiful music. She is the bees knees for sure.

I listened to St. Vincent all morning long – while I was baking, reading, roasting, and posting. I have a girl crush on her I suppose….so what? I’m not ashamed lol.

"As for me I have to agree I'm as fickle as a paper doll.
Being kicked by the wind when I touch down again I'll be in someone elses arms"

BABY CAKES – NYC

“In a city dominated by cupcakes overflowing with sugar, flour and butter cream, it’s easy for those with persnickety diets to feel left out. BabyCakes offers all-natural, organic and delicious alternatives free from the common allergens: wheat, gluten, dairy, casein and eggs. Rest assured, all sweeteners have been chosen responsibly and used sparingly. White sugar will never be found in our bakery, nor will we ever use toxic chemical sweeteners. Instead, most products are sweetened with agave nectar—a natural syrup from a cactus which is low on the glycemia index and often a safe alternative to most non-insulin dependant diabetics. Occasionally, unprocessed and unrefined sugar is used in certain goods, although sparingly.”

[[Today’s news]]

WANT A SODA? GO WITH YOUR GUT.

“Diet drinks and artificially sweetened treats are calorie free, but new research indicates that they’re fooling more than your mouth—and most likely messing with your metabolism. Scientists have discovered that the biological machinery that allows you to taste sweet with your tongue also exists in the gut, reports Science News.

In the mouth, sweet-taste receptors tell the brain to pump saliva, chew, and swallow. No problem there. In the gut, however, they “take this response to the next level, affirming that fuel is indeed incoming and setting off reactions to cope with it.” These reactions include releasing a surge of insulin, which encourages cells to drain glucose from blood and store it as energy in the muscles and liver. Artificial sweeteners trigger the same reactions, only there’s no energy for the body to harvest.”
