Honeytastic Goodness

Helloooooooooooo everyone!
How are you doing on this wonderful Sunday?
I'm doing magnificent thank you!
How exactly did I spend my Sunday thus far?

Grocery Shopping

Watching Spice World

And I'm watching UP as we speak!

It's been a swell day so far if I do say so myself :) And it can only get better from here! In a couple of hours I will be getting ready to meet up with a few friends from work at the House of Blues. I can't wait!

::Side Note:: I'm so sorry I didn't have time to post yesterday. I woke up three hours later than I had planned. But then again....I didn't go to sleep until three in the morning, so what did I expect?

Wait.....wasn't yesterday Saturday?

Saturday can only mean two things:
I had a break from my vegan challenge.
And.........

Pancakes!!!

Happy belated Pancake Saturday everyone. How did I celebrate this particular Pancake Saturday? I celebrated it at IHOP after work Friday night with a few of my fellow co workers! Technically it was Saturday .....because I didn't get my pancakes until almost one o clock in the morning lol. Had I not stuck around to indulge in some early morning PS goodness- I might've woken up at seven a.m. yesterday like I planned! Oh well. We make sacrifices for the cravings in life.

What did I order at IHOP? My usual: Simple & Fit Blueberry Harvest Grain 'N Nut Combo which consists of two harvest grain 'n nut pancakes filled with blueberries and topped with sliced banana - served with a side of scrambled egg substitute. I of course topped my eggs with hot sauce, and my pancakes with about three packets of honey. It was DELISH.

Wait......did somebody say honey?

I LOVE HONEY!
Honey is my all time favorite condiment & daily indulgence. A day without honey is like a thousand days without sunlight to me. It just doesn't make sense! I love honey so much that I've taken a handful of online classes on beekeeping/ honey production. I hope to put my honey knowledge to good use within the next ten years or so. How? I plan on having my very own bees and possibly a honey business to go along with them! I still have a few things I'd like to do before I begin dabbling in a honey career - but it's something I'm very interesting in pursuing!!
Why all of this honey talk?

Guess which lucky lady finally tried her brand new bottle of Mike's Hot Honey yesterday! :D
What is Mike's Hot Honey? Well if you don't already know - I suggest you watch this short video and find out for yourself! Michael Kurtz is a genius.

Now that we're all caught up on the behind the scenes honey goodness, let's get to the taste test shall we? I decided to taste the honey two different ways. First on a spoon and then once more on one of my every day food items.

First of all let me just say - this honey smells like straight up hot sauce, minus the burning sensation in your nose that you'd usually get when smelling hot sauce lol.

::Spoon taste test::

First thoughts?

"Oh my goodness this is delicious.....OH MY GOD THIS IS FREAKING HOT ::cough cough:: a big spoonfull was a bad idea Jen.........oh wow this really does tastes good"

Let me decipher this interesting first impression for all of you: The way you taste this honey on your tongue is CRAZY. It really is, for lack of a better term, a mind fuck lol. First I tasted honey, and then a second or two later I felt the heat from the chilies big time in the back of my throat, and a few seconds after the heat somewhat subsided I tasted the initial honey flavor once again.

This honey is NOT for people who do not like hot and/or spicy foods. It's just not. This honey is packing some serious heat. Lucky for me I love spicy foods, but even that being said, I was not anticipating the honey be so hot. I really should've just dipped my finger in the bottle instead of downing an entire tablespoon at once lol. Even though the heat hit me super hard, I took in another spoon full....and then another....and then another....and then another.....and.....you pretty much get the gist of it lol. It's just so darn addictive!

::Bread Taste Test::

This honey really spices up just about any dish!
Take this boring ol' breakfast of mine for instance....

Add a bit of Mikes Hot Honey and....

BAM! You have a deliciously irresistible flavor combination!

I will say that this honey does not have nearly as much heat when it's paired with something else. Take my aforementioned breakfast for instance, when being paired with toast the honey flavor was in greater abundance on my tongue than the heat, but there was still a strong kick to it. Why was the honey flavor more apparent when being paired with the bread? I'm thinking it's because it was difficult to taste anything else but the heat when tasting it alone.

Trust me - tasting this honey is a crazy tasting experience to be had.

::Mike’s Top Hot Honey Pairings (compliments of Food Curated ) ::

- Manchengo cheese & Bosc pears - Vanilla ice cream (Mike's mom's favorite) - Vegetable & meat stir fry - Shrimp - Roasted Chicken - Salvatore Bkly ricotta w/ fresh baguette (his own favorie) -

If you'd like to try a $6 bottle of Mike's Hot Honey yourself, you can order it online here (he ships internationally!) or visit 'Paulie Gee's Pizza' in Brooklyn NY!!!

Well that's all from me today!
I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful Sunday.
Be sure to treat your body with the respect it deserves.
It's the only one you have!

(5) THE FINGER TEST TO CHECK THE DONENESS OF MEAT

The Finger Test to Check the Doneness of Meat

METHOD

finger-test-1.jpg

"Open the palm of your hand. Relax the hand. Take the index finger of your other hand and push on the fleshy area between the thumb and the base of the palm. Make sure your hand is relaxed. This is what raw meat feels like. (Check this out the next time you have a raw steak to cook.)

finger-test-2.jpg

Now gently press the tip of your pinky and your thumb together. Again feel the fleshy area below the thumb. It should feel quite firm. This is what well done meat feels like when you press on it. (Check this out the next time you overcook a piece of meat.)

finger-test-5.jpg

Press the tip of your ring finger and your thumb together. The flesh beneath the thumb should give a little more. This is what meat cooked to a medium doneness feels like.

finger-test-4.jpg

Gently press the tip of your middle finger to the tip of your thumb. This is medium rare.

finger-test-3.jpg

Press the tip of your index finger to the tip of your thumb. The fleshy area below the thumb should give quite a bit. This is what meat cooked to rare feels like. Open up your palm again and compare raw to rare."
