How are you doing on this wonderful Monday? I'm a bit glum to be quite honest, which can largely be contributed to the fact that it hasn't stopped raining in about a week. I need sunshine in my life!! Sunshine and a bit of warmth!!
Lucky for me I have tons of photographs of myself basking in the sun I can look at that were taken when I lived in Florida earlier this year......
Beware....I feel a rant coming on lol.......
Looking through all of these posts over the past hour or so was seriously a HUGE wake up call. If you know me then you know that I never get embarrassed. I just don't. My mind just automatically turns embarrassment into a joke - so I mainly just laugh instead of turning red about things. Well I am sad to say that I am embarrassed. It is a strange feeling seeing as I haven't felt it since I was about eighteen. I don't like being embarrassed, it's a ridiculous emotion and I clearly loathe it with a passion. Why so embarrassed?
After browsing through at least 60 posts I wrote during my stay in Orlando - 60 posts containing adventures, discussions of exercises, pictures of myself in bathing suits, food that I made, grocery store trips I cataloged - I've come to several conclusions that I'm ashamed and equally embarrassed of:
1. My body was in outstanding shape for my entire stay in Florida. I exercised every day. I ate extremely healthy. I rarely drank alcohol. Then I came home, stopped exercising, started eating like crap, drinking all of the time, and just not caring. I turned it into "a break" in my head. "Oh I deserve a break from taking care of my body." Wtf kind of excuse is that? I am in complete and utter control of my health and I'm embarrassed that I stopped caring. It is my fault and no one elses which is embarrassment enough.
2. I had zero friends in the state of Florida lol. I had work friends, but no real friends I hung out with on a regular basis. I'm not necessarily embarrassed that I didn't have friends, but I regret not making more of my stay in Orlando. I could've made a few life long friends here and there if I would've put some effort into it, but instead I blogged all day long. Which wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it kind of screwed me over when I moved back to Ohio - which brings me to my last point......
3. I was an amazing blogger when I was in FL. I actually had the time to post and I really enjoyed doing it. Now that I'm back in Ohio with my friends, I have a full time job, a new apartment, a new blog to tend to and blah blah blah - it looks like I'm just a lazy person. I had no friends in Florida which made me into an amazing blogger, but seeing as I have somewhat of a hectic life now it isn't as easy to keep it up - and I'm embarrassed for that as well.
Some of you might be thinking "what's with all of the embarrassment confessions Jenna?" I've come to find in the past that if I blogged about "a wake up call" or "turning my life around" I was more likely to actually put it into practice in my life instead of just continuing to complain about it all of the time. There is an odd sense of wanting to accomplish things when my readers are expecting me to do so. I don't want to let any of you guys down, and I also want to inspire you with my actions in one way or another.
To sum it all up before I lose your attention (which I'm sure I already have lol):
I'm going to exercise as often as I can and lose 15 lbs by March.
I'm going to cut a lot of food out of my diet, and add in a much heavier fruit and vegetable intake.
I'm going to spend my free time working on CCH and my new blog blaquemour instead of lounging about.
There. I said it. Now I HAVE to do it lol.
Now let's talk about yesterday - which was one of my favorite days of the year.......
Yesterday was our families "Annual Christmas cookie bakeaton"
(I named it myself lol). Do you guys remember last years bakeathon?? If not I suggest you click the link and take a gander! You will come to find that the bakeathon rarely changes from year to year. Same treats, different hair cut lol. What exactly is this bakeathon all about? Well....it's exactly what it sounds like - a non stop baketacular event!!!!!! My mother sister and I go to my aunts house around 8:30 am and bake a handful of our traditional deserts until about 5 or 6 pm! Our baketacular bakefest is so much fun, mainly because baking is one of my all time favorite things to do, my second being actually eating the deserts lol.
The deserts you will see below are deserts we've had during Christmas almost every single year since I was born. The only real difference over the past twenty years is that my mother and aunt have my sister and I to help!
Enough talking from me! It's time to make your mouth water with photographs of the most delicious treats the month of December has ever seen!!!!
I, being the wonderful blogger that I am, took photographs of the entire process to share with all of you! :) Please forgive the quality of some of the photos - all of these were taken with the camera on my cellphone...and I had batter and/or chocolate on my hand a majority of the time.....so I did the best with what I had lol.... ENJOY!!!!!!!
Here I AM!
If you raid my closet you will find little to nothing else but dresses. But for some reason on our annual bakeathon I like to wear leggings and a cardigan. It's a lot more comfortable, and I feel better about getting messy. Although this wasn't really an issue this year, because my mom surprised all of us with matching festive aprons!!!!
How cute are these? Not only are these aprons nice to look at, their comfy to wear as well! I hate nothing more than aprons that are too big, or too small. Not everyone is the same size people! What is so wonderful about these particular aprons is that they have an adjustable draw strings, so it fits all sizes comfortably! What a smart idea, hu?
(Am I the only person who gets this jazzed about an apron? I'm almost sure of it lol)
Cuteness all over!
Gotta love festive mugs :)
Festive baking needs matching decorations (check) and music (double check)!
We listened nothing to Christmas music all day long. It's an absolute must for Christmas baking I can assure you. If you're not familiar with Christmas music I suggest you start with Bing Crosby, he has the absolute perfect voice. It cuts through the air like butter. I've always had a soft spot for a man with a voice like that ::swoon::
I'd like to make a special shout out/thanks to my beautiful 6 quart white KitchenAid mixer....
Without you my dear the day would've been a lot more difficult.
GERMAN CHRISTMAS COOKIES
My sister helped decorate German Christmas cookies....and that was about it lol. Baking isn't really Juliannes thing. She prefers to hang out and watch us do all of the work, which is fine by me seeing as I enjoy doing all of the work!
BROWNIE CANDY CUPS
(You can find the recipe: HERE )
You can't unwrap an entire bag of Reese's peanut butter cups without eating one....or two...or three....
It's like a chocolate flavor explosion in your mouth....
(that's what she said lol)
MRS. FIELDS CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
These cookies are by far the biggest guilty pleasure on the menu. Everyone in my family absolutely adores these cookies, which isn't a surprise in the least bit. These cookies are so full of fat, sugar, carbs, and horribly delicious ingredients that you honestly shouldn't know what's in them. Perhaps one day I'll share the ingredients, but until then I'll just tease you with beautiful pictures........
Once the first batch came out of the oven (we made 112 of these cookies total lol) we couldn't help ourselves. My aunt, uncle, mother and I each bit into one and just let out a big "mmmmmmmm" at the same time lol. Good thing I didn't take any of these back to my apartment.....that would've been dangerous......
Baking for hours at a time sure does work up an appetite!
A six inch cold cut combo on wheat with pepper jack cheese, spinach, green bell peppers, banana peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, black olives, lettuce, spicy brown mustard and a bit of mayo!
Ladies and gentleman, I saved the best for last.
I've been DYING to share this Ohio staple with my readers. And now I finally can!!
When I lived in Florida I remember having a discussion with a group of co workers about popular deserts, and when I brought up Buckeyes almost every single one of these people went blank in the face. They dared to ask me "What are buckeyes?" ::GASP:: My heart just dropped and shattered into pieces. What are buckeyes????? ARE YOU CRAZY PEOPLE!!!!???
Buckeyes are a peanut butter and chocolate candy made to resemble the nut of a buckeye tree. Clearly just us Ohioans are WILD about these things, because almost every person I worked with at
Walt Disney World had no idea what I was talking about...and not a single one of them were from Ohio lol. Trust me - bring these bad boys to a party in this state, and they'll vanish in minutes.
If you've never had a buckeye before I suggest you click the link above and give them ago! You won't regret it I swear :)
I couldn't make all of these buckeyes without eating at least two....or three lol - can you blame me?
Just look at them!
CHOCOLATE COVERED PRETZELS
We had to make chocolate covered pretzels with the leftover dipping chocolate.
The perfect mixture of sweet chocolatey and salty goodness :)
Thank you for spending the time to relive one of my favorite days of the year with me!
I hope you enjoyed all of the pictures I took, and hopefully it'll inspire you to spend some time making treats with your family this year too! It really is a lot of fun - even with all of the arguing and name calling lol. It wouldn't be a family gathering without it! :)
Before I bid you farewell I must share one more thing.......
My roommate and I have new kittens!!!!!!!!!!
Some of my close friends that I haven't spoken to in a while are probably thinking "Omg Jen you didn't....you are a dog person....do you even like cats? Aren't you semi allergic? Why did you get two? You know they'll be full grown cats one day right? Do you even have the money to afford this? What about your puppy Marcie!?!?!?"
To answer all of these hypothetical questions: Yes I did. I am a dog person. I do like cats but in an entirely different way than I do dogs. Yes I am semi allergic. We got two because we didn't want one cat all by itself all day long, this way we got to keep the sisters together. I do know they will be full gown cats one day. I do have enough money to afford them, they were free after all - the rest of the bills are minor. And Marcie is just fine at my parents house a few towns away. She is happy with a big yard, and other dogs. I'm not interested in keeping her cooped up in an itty bitty apartment all day long all by herself when she basically has freedom at my parents house! I love my Marcie but I won't put her through that.
Now without further adieu I present to you.......
Kiddy aka Edie
Why do our cats have two names? Well, Shar (my roommate) and I change our mind frequently you see lol. We first named them Edie and Lady, then we changed it to Kiddy and Kat, then we got all confused and started calling them both names. So we just decided that we will call them either of the two names and hope that they realize which names are whose lol. They are sisters and they look almost identical - so each of them are called whatever comes to mind....it is quite confusing lol. We need to get them different colored collars so we can actually tell the difference!
Similar to my old dog Ginger (r.i.p.) these little girls are blogging kitties! Ginger used to sit on my shoulder/lap/chest while I blogged every single day, and it's looking like these little ones are doing the exact same thing (I'm just one big jungle gym to them to be quite honest lol)
Well that's enough out of me!
I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful day!
